Under the Ministry of Coal Industry of Kuzbass, in January-July 2023 coal mining enterprises in Kuzbass produced 125.6 mio t of coal (-0.1 mio t or -0.08% y-o-y).
The production of coking coal during this period increased to 39.1 mio t (+2.2 mio t or +6.0% y-o-y), whereas thermal coal extraction volumes amounted to 86.5 mio t (-2.3 mio t or -2.6% y-o-y).
Coal companies produced 84.3 mio t (-1.4 mio t or -1.6%) at open-pit mines and 41.3 mio t (+1.3 mio t or +3.3% y-o-y) through underground mining.
In Jan-Jul 2023, 102.9 mio t (+0.2 mio t or +0.2% y-o-y) were delivered to end-users, including 68.7 mio t (flat y-o-y) for export, 19.0 mio t (+0.7 mio t or +3.8% y-o-y) to Russian metallurgical companies and 10.2 mio t (+0.4 mio t or +4.1% y-o-y) to local coal-fired power plants.
As of August 01, 2023, coal stocks in Kuzbass totaled 20.6 mio t (+1.5 mio t or +7.9% vs. August 01, 2022) amid international sanctions against Russia and logistical issues.
