Under the Ministry of Coal Industry of Kuzbass, in January-June 2023 coal mining enterprises in Kuzbass produced 108.8 mio t of coal (-1.0 mio t or -0.9% y-o-y).
The production of coking coal during this period increased to 33.8 mio t (+1.7 mio t or +5.3% y-o-y), whereas thermal coal extraction volumes amounted to 75.0 mio t (-2.7 mio t or -3.5% y-o-y).
Coal companies produced 73.1 mio t (flat) at open-pit mines and 35.7 mio t (-1.0 mio t or -2.7% y-o-y) through underground mining.
In H1 2023, 88.7 mio t (+0.5 mio t or +0.6% y-o-y) were delivered to end-users, including 59.3 mio t (+0.7 mio t or +1.2% y-o-y) for export, 16.4 mio t (+0.5 mio t or +3.1% y-o-y) to Russian metallurgical companies and 6.8 mio t (+0.2 mio t or +3.0% y-o-y) to local coal-fired power plants.
As of July 01, 2023, coal stocks in Kuzbass totaled 20.9 mio t (+1.5 mio t or +7.7% vs. July 01, 2022) amid international sanctions against Russia and logistical issues (see the chart below).
