Under the Ministry of Coal Industry of Kuzbass, in January-August 2022 coal mining enterprises in Kuzbass produced 143.9 mio t of coal (-14.2 mio t or -9.0% y-o-y).
The production of coking coal during this period decreased to 42.7 mio t (-3.2 mio t or -7.0% y-o-y), whereas thermal coal extraction volumes amounted to 101.2 mio t (-11.0 mio t or -9.8% y-o-y).
Coal companies produced 94.6 mio t (-8.4 mio t or -8.2% y-o-y) at open-pit mines and 49.3 mio t (-5.8 mio t or –10.5% y-o-y) through underground mining.
In January-August 2022, 118.0 mio t (-13.8 mio t or -10.5% y-o-y) were delivered to end-users, including 78.9 mio t (-13.9 mio t or -15.0% y-o-y) for export, 21.2 mio t (-1.9 mio t or -8.2% y-o-y) to Russian metallurgical companies and 11.2 mio t (+0.8 mio t or +7.7% y-o-y) to local coal-fired power plants.
As of September 01, 2022, coal stocks in Kuzbass totaled 18.4 mio t (+3.3 mio t or +21.9% to September 01, 2021). Inventory growth in Kuzbass vs. 2021 continues for the seventh month in a row amid logistical issues and international sanctions against Russia (see the chart below).
