Elgaugol started construction of the second railroad line (531 km long) on its Pacific Railroad. This will boost the carrying capacity of the railway connecting the Elga coal deposit with the export terminal from 30 mio t to 50 mio t of coal per year.
Elga coal project includes a coking coal deposit, as well as a terminal located 30 km from Chumikan village, with a capacity of 30 mio t per year and capable of simultaneously handling 4 vessels with deadweight of up to 85,000 t.
In 2024, Elgaugol produced 28.6 mio t of coal (+7.2 mio t or 33.3% y-o-y). In January-March 2025, total output amounted to 8.8 mio t (+2.5 mio t or +39.7% y-o-y).
Nevertheless, production growth does not directly translate into higher export volumes, as deposits in the region are characterized by hard-to-enrich coals, which lose up to 50% of their volume when processed at washing plants.
