Under the Ministry of Coal Industry of Kuzbass, in January-August 2023 coal mining enterprises in Kuzbass produced 142.7 mio t of coal (-1.2 mio t or -0.8% y-o-y).
The production of coking coal during this period increased to 44.3 mio t (+1.6 mio t or +3.7% y-o-y), whereas thermal coal extraction volumes amounted to 98.4 mio t (-2.8 mio t or -2.8% y-o-y).
Coal companies produced 96.0 mio t (-0.4 mio t or -0.4%) at open-pit mines and 46.7 mio t (-0.8 mio t or -1.7% y-o-y) through underground mining.
In Jan-Aug 2023, 116.2 mio t (-1.8 mio t or -1.5% y-o-y) were delivered to end-users, including 77.1 mio t (-1.8 mio t or -2.3% y-o-y) for export, 22.0 mio t (+0.8 mio t or +3.8% y-o-y) to Russian metallurgical companies and
11.3 mio t (-0.1 mio t or -0.9% y-o-y) to local coal-fired power plants.
As of September 01, 2023, coal stocks in Kuzbass totaled 20.6 mio t (+2.2 mio t or +12.0% vs. September 01, 2022) amid international sanctions against Russia and logistical issues.
