International thermal coal prices remained under pressure due to sluggish procurement activities from major importers. Both the Chinese and Indian markets had ample coal stocks, allowing them to maintain a strong bargaining position. In the last decade, electricity generation from coal has doubled, with coal-generated electricity reaching a record high of 118 TWh in 2023, marking the highest production in Turkey’s history.
