Under the Ministry of Coal Industry of Kuzbass, in January-September 2023 coal mining enterprises in Kuzbass produced 160.2 mio t of coal (-2.3 mio t or -1.4% y-o-y).
The production of coking coal during this period increased to 49.9 mio t (+1.5 mio t or +3.1% y-o-y), whereas thermal coal extraction volumes amounted to 110.3 mio t (-3.8 mio t or -3.3% y-o-y).
Coal companies produced 107.6 mio t (-1.0 mio t or -0.9% y-o-y) at open-pit mines and 52.6 mio t (-1.3 mio t or -2.4% y-o-y) through underground mining.
In Jan-Sep 2023, 130.4 mio t (-2.2 mio t or -1.7% y-o-y) were delivered to end-users, including:
· 85.3 mio t (-2.8 mio t or -3.2%) for export,
· 24.9 mio t (+0.8 mio t or +3.3%) to Russian metallurgical companies
· 13.1 mio t (+0.4 mio t or +3.1%) to local coal-fired power plants.
As of October 01, 2023, coal stocks in Kuzbass totaled 21.1 mio t (+2.1 mio t or +11.1% vs. October 01, 2022) amid international sanctions against Russia and logistical issues.
