Coal is an important feedstock for steel making. The industry faces increasing pressure to decarbonise and in the process seek alternative to coal as principal feedstock. This paper provides a valuable overview of the different pathways to decarbonise steel production. Accounting for around 8% of global carbon emissions, iron and steel production sits squarely on the list of hard–to–abate sectors.
