Inner Mongolia’s coal output on the increase

Inner Mongolia, a key energy hub in North China, saw its coal production on the increase since October with various measures to release coal capacity and ensure supplies, said a government official.

The region’s coal production picked up to 2.9 million tonnes on October 18, compared with 1.78 million tonnes on October 2, said Zhang Zhanjun, vice director of Inner Mongolia’s Energy Administration .

The best record during the period, 3.09 million tonnes, even reached the highest level a year ago, he added.

The region’s coal production accounted for 28% of the country’s total, while the cross-province transactions took 30%. Currently, average production capacity of single mine in Inner Mongolia reaches 2.57 million tonnes per annum, more than tripling the nation’s average level.

Zhang also pointed that in the year to August, Inner Mongolia produced 633 million tonnes of coal with revenue up to 34.87 billion yuan ($5.13 billion), accounting for 49.7% of the whole industrial sector.

Inner Mongolia supplied nearly 550 million tonnes of coal to northeast region during 2016-2019 period to meet coal demand in winter heating season.

In August this year, Inner Mongolia convened a panel on the fuel supplies and took initiative to grasp the major energy demand in northeast. Meanwhile, it also got a full picture of production situation at eastern Inner Mongolia to properly manage the supply.

In addition, authorities also formulated comprehensive guidance to release advanced capacity. Zhang stressed the top priority should be given to supplies for power and heating purposes.
