Under the Ministry of Coal Industry of Kuzbass, in January-March 2022 coal mining enterprises in Kuzbass produced 57.0 mio t of coal (-1.0 mio t or -1.7% y-o-y).
The production of coking coal during this period decreased to 16.4 mio t (-0.8 mio t or -4.7% y-o-y), whereas thermal coal extraction volumes amounted to 40.6 mio t (-0.2 mio t or -0.5% y-o-y).
Coal companies produced 36.8 mio t (+1.6 mio t or +4.5% y-o-y) at open-pit mines and 20.2 mio t (-2.6 mio t or –11.4% y-o-y) through underground mining.
In February-March 2022, 45.6 mio t (-2.7 mio t or -5.6% y-o-y) were delivered to end-users, including 29.7 mio t (-3.5 mio t or -10.5% y-o-y) for export, 8.3 mio t (+0.2 mio t or +2.5% y-o-y) to Russian metallurgical companies and 4.3 mio t (+0.3 mio t or +7.5% y-o-y) to local coal-fired power plants.
As of April 01, 2022, coal stocks in Kuzbass totaled 17.9 mio t (+2.6 mio t or +17.0% to April 01, 2021). Inventory growth in Kuzbass continues for the second month in a row amid logistical issues and international sanctions against Russia (see chart below).
