By 2050, coal will contribute 21% of the region’s power generation—outperforming other options in terms of security, reliability, and affordability. The report advocates a ‘phase-down’ of older, unabated coal plants while investing in coal abatement technologies, recognising that a premature ‘phase-out’ of coal will adversely affect the ASEAN economy.
