Under the Ministry of Coal Industry of Kuzbass, in January-November 2022 coal mining enterprises in Kuzbass produced 201.8 mio t of coal (-19.8 mio t or -8.9% y-o-y).
The production of coking coal during this period decreased to 60.6 mio t (-4.7 mio t or -7.2% y-o-y), whereas thermal coal extraction volumes amounted to 141.2 mio t (-15.1 mio t or -9.7% y-o-y).
Coal companies produced 134.4 mio t (-8.5 mio t or -5.9% y-o-y) at open-pit mines and 67.4 mio t (-11.4 mio t or –14.5% y-o-y) through underground mining.
In January-November 2022, 164.5 mio t (-18.1 mio t or -9.9% y-o-y) were delivered to end-users, including 109.3 mio t (-19.0 mio t or -14.8% y-o-y) for export, 29.3 mio t (-2.6 mio t or -8.2% y-o-y) to Russian metallurgical companies and 16.1 mio t (+2.1 mio t or +15.0% y-o-y) to local coal-fired power plants.
As of December 01, 2022, coal stocks in Kuzbass totaled 20.0 mio t (+3.3 mio t or +19.8% to December 01, 2021). Inventory growth in Kuzbass vs. 2021 continues for the tenth month in a row amid logistical issues and international sanctions against Russia (see the chart below).
