Under the Ministry of Coal Industry of Kuzbass, in H1 2022 coal mining enterprises in Kuzbass produced 109.8 mio t of coal (-7.5 mio t or -6.4% y-o-y).
The production of coking coal during this period decreased to 32.1 mio t (-2.0 mio t or -5.9% y-o-y), whereas thermal coal extraction volumes amounted to 77.7 mio t (-5.5 mio t or -6.6% y-o-y).
Coal companies produced 71.8 mio t (-0.4 mio t or -0.6% y-o-y) at open-pit mines and 38.0 mio t (-7.1 mio t or –15.7% y-o-y) through underground mining.
In January-June 2022, 88.1 mio t (-10.8 mio t or -10.9% y-o-y) were delivered to end-users, including 58.6 mio t (-11.2 mio t or -16.0% y-o-y) for export, 15.9 mio t (-1.0 mio t or -5.9% y-o-y) to Russian metallurgical companies and 8.5 mio t (+0.5 mio t or +6.3% y-o-y) to local coal-fired power plants.
As of July 01, 2022, coal stocks in Kuzbass totaled 19.4 mio t (+5.0 mio t or +34.7% to July 01, 2021). Inventory growth in Kuzbass continues for the fifth month in a row amid logistical issues and international sanctions against Russia (see chart below).
