Under the Ministry of Coal Industry of Kuzbass, in January-July 2022 coal mining enterprises in Kuzbass produced 125.7 mio t of coal (-11.8 mio t or -8.9% y-o-y).
The production of coking coal during this period decreased to 36.9 mio t (-2.9 mio t or -7.3% y-o-y), whereas thermal coal extraction volumes amounted to 88.8 mio t (-8.9 mio t or -9.1% y-o-y).
Coal companies produced 82.5 mio t (-5.9 mio t or -6.7% y-o-y) at open-pit mines and 43.2 mio t (-5.9 mio t or –12.0% y-o-y) through underground mining.
In January-July 2022, 102.7 mio t (-12.4 mio t or -10.8% y-o-y) were delivered to end-users, including 68.8 mio t (-12.3 mio t or -15.2% y-o-y) for export, 18.3 mio t (-1.7 mio t or -8.5% y-o-y) to Russian metallurgical companies and 9.8 mio t (+0.7 mio t or +7.7% y-o-y) to local coal-fired power plants.
As of August 01, 2022, coal stocks in Kuzbass totaled 18.7 mio t (+3.8 mio t or +25.5% to August 01, 2021). Inventory growth in Kuzbass vs. 2021 continues for the sixth month in a row amid logistical issues and international sanctions against Russia (see the chart below).
