Coal production in Kuzbass up 4.4% in Jan 2022

Under the Ministry of Coal Industry of Kuzbass, in January 2022 coal mining enterprises in Kuzbass produced 19.0 mio t of coal (+0.8 mio t or +4.4% to January 2021). The production of coking coal during this period decreased to 5.4 mio t (-0.1 mio t or -1.8% y-o-y), whereas thermal coal extraction volumes amounted to 13.6 mio t (+0.9 mio t or +7.1% y-o-y).

Coal companies produced 12.4 mio t (+0.8 mio t or +6.9% y-o-y) at open-pit mines and 6.6 mio t (flat y-o-y) through underground mining.

In January 2022, 16.5 mio t of coal were delivered to end-users, including 10.8 mio t (-0.3 mio t or -2.7% y-o-y) for export, 2.8 mio t (+0.2 mio t or +7.7% y-o-y) to Russian metallurgical companies and 1.6 mio t (+0.2 mio t or +14.3% y-o-y) to local coal-fired power plants.

As of February 01, 2022, coal stocks in Kuzbass totaled 16.0 mio t (-1.2 mio t or -7.0% to February 01, 2021).
