European coal prices have come off their 2022 highs but prices remain volatile

Coal stocks at the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp (ARA) transshipment hub dropped to their lowest since May 2022, as softer imports more than offset thinner regional consumption. Combined stocks at the ARA hub’s main ports fell by 8pc on the week to 5.2mn t as of 5 November, based on terminal data. This was 500,000t lower than the previous five-year average for the period.
