Will green power Trading take off in China? What does it mean for coal and the thermal coal fired power market? Ongoing power market reforms in China that began in 2015 have had a significant impact on renewable energy policies and have recently begun to result in more direct trading of renewable energy, but they have thus far had little interaction with green certificate policies. Whereas wholesale power market trading initially focused on monthly and annual operating hour contracts from coal plants, renewable energy projects have been increasingly encouraged to participate in bilateral transactions.
