Global seaborne Steam Coal flows are about to set records in August. At time of posting, current imports by vessel worldwide are registering a 23.4% YoY increase.
If this rate is kept up, Aug 2021 will become the most prolific month on record for seaborne Steam Coal.
The main driver behind the most recent Steam Coal boom stands in China increasing its imports by over 100% year-on-year for a total of 28m MT discharged at its ports.
This gives China a rarely seen market share of just under 32% of all Steam Coal #voyages in August.
Export-wise, Indonesia registered a 30.8% YoY increase, adding over 9m MT of Steam Coal to the market, while Australia contributed with nearly 4m MT compared to last August.
In the meantime, Russia is marking a third consecutive month of exports exceeding 14m MT.
