The first bulk carrier arrived at the Elga coal terminal, which is under construction and is the final station of the Pacific Railroad.
Elga also launched the first freight train of 20 railcars with coal along the 531 km long private railroad. However, according to some reports, a locomotive and 4 railcars derailed during the journey.
The capacity of the terminal, located 30 km from the village of Chumikan, according to the project, will total 30 mio t per year, and it will be able to simultaneously handle 4 vessels with deadweight up to 85,000 t.
In winter navigation of 2024-2025 it is planned to provide icebreaker assistance with the help of two icebreakers.
The port is part of the Far Eastern logistics cluster of Elga Company, which is developing the Elga and Ogodzhinskoye coal deposits.
Elga’s production from January through October 2024 increased to 19.9 mio t (+4.7 mio t or + 30.9% y-o-y).
