Coal still plays a key role in global electricity generation

The IEA issued their newest electricity report about a week ago. The report speaks a lot of wind and solar to meet their demand projections but seems to forget that coal and gas continue to grow in absolute terms and make up 60% of global power… wind and solar make up only a fraction of the growth but never (except for during covid) did coal and gas decline in absolute terms (Lars Schernikau).
