Net Additional Coal Generation Capacity Since the Paris Agreement

Since the Paris Agreement ratification, there has been a significant divergence between Developed and Developing countries (especially Asian ones): coal generation capacity decreased by 164.4 GWs (gigawatts) in Developed countries. In contrast in Developing Countries, the net change has been an increase of 360 GWs. The U.S.’s shift away from coal has been helped by increased U.S. natural gas production, coupled with key state and municipal regulations mandating the reduction of coal usage.
