In the power sector, ASEAN has historically relied on fossil-fuelled power generation. In the Baseline Scenario, coal remains central to the ASEAN power mix, with installed coal power capacity growing at a CAGR of 3.8% from 2025 to 2040, building on what was already robust growth in 2017–2025.
