The steel world is grappling with the effects of COVID-19. The decline in global steel demand in the first half of 2020 is predictable but perhaps more painful as it came after slower than expected growth in 2019 due to the continuing manufacturing recession in the developed countries. However, it is possible that the impact on steel demand in the medium-term may turn out to be less severe than that seen during the global financial crisis in 2008/9. Source: World Steel Association
