China’s coal fleet

China has the world’s largest coal fleet totaling1.074million megawatts (MW)of coal-fired generation capacity. This is half the world’s coal fleet(2.067 million MW) and almost the same size as the entire U.S. electricity supply (1.15 million MW) of natural gas, coal, nuclear, renewables, etc.). This short paper provides some quick facts, mostly about China’s coal fired power generation capacity. However, keep in mind that India has the world’s second largest coal fleet (233,000 MW plus 57,000 MW being built or under development) which is much larger than the U.S. coal fleet (200,000 MW).
