Under the Ministry of Coal Industry of Kuzbass, in January-November 2023 coal mining enterprises in Kuzbass produced 195.9 mio t of coal (-5.9 mio t or -2.9% y-o-y).
The production of coking coal during this period increased to 62.1 mio t (+1.5 mio t or +2.5% y-o-y), whereas thermal coal extraction volumes amounted to 133.8 mio t (-7.4 mio t or -5.2% y-o-y).
Coal companies produced 131.1 mio t (-5.8 mio t or -4.2% y-o-y) at open-pit mines and 64.8 mio t (-0.1 mio t or -0.2% y-o-y) through underground mining.
In Jan-Nov 2023, 159.1 mio t (-5.4 mio t or -3.3% y-o-y) were delivered to end-users, including:
· 103.5 mio t (-5.8 mio t or -5.3%) for export,
· 30.3 mio t (+1.1 mio t or +3.8%) to Russian metallurgical companies
· 15.8 mio t (-0.3 mio t or -1.9%) to local coal-fired power plants.
As of December 01, 2023, coal stocks in Kuzbass totaled 21.7 mio t (+1.7 mio t or +8.5% vs. December 01, 2022) amid international sanctions against Russia and logistical issues.
