Under the Ministry of Coal Industry of Kuzbass, in January-March 2023 coal mining enterprises in Kuzbass produced 54.0 mio t of coal (-3.0 mio t or -5.3% y-o-y).
The production of coking coal during this period increased to 17.0 mio t (+0.6 mio t or +3.7% y-o-y), whereas thermal coal extraction volumes amounted to 37.0 mio t (-3.6 mio t or -8.9% y-o-y).
Coal companies produced 35.4 mio t (-1.5 mio t or -4.1% y-o-y) at open-pit mines and 18.6 mio t (-1.5 mio t or -7.5% y-o-y) through underground mining.
In Jan-Mar 2023, 46.1 mio t (+0.5 mio t or +1.1% y-o-y) were delivered to end-users, including 31.3 mio t (+1.6 mio t or +5.4% y-o-y) for export, 7.8 mio t (-0.5 mio t or -6.0% y-o-y) to Russian metallurgical companies and 4.3 mio t (flat y-o-y) to local coal-fired power plants.
As of April 01, 2023, coal stocks in Kuzbass totaled 19.7 mio t (+1.8 mio t or +10.1% vs. April 01, 2022) amid international sanctions against Russia and logistical issues (see the chart below).
