In the last decade, electricity generation from coal has doubled, with coal-generated electricity reaching a record high of 118 TWh in 2023, marking the highest production in Turkey’s history. Additionally, a large portion of Turkey’s domestic coal reserves has low energy potential and high moisture content, which reduces the performance of the power plants.
