Countries in the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) region are leading the way in advanced coal abatement technologies. Coal-fired power generation still holds a significant share of the electricity supply for many economies in the APEC region. Those economies plan to continue operating their existing coal plants for years to come due to the plants being newer and not fully amortised.
