Under the new amendments to the Russian state program on development of energy industry, in 2021 coal production in Russia is expected to reach 390.7 mio t (-65 mio t or -14% to the previous estimates). In 2022, coal production will decline to 389.5 mio t and will remain at this level in 2023. In 2024, coal production will return to growth and is thought to reach 420 mio t.
The increase in extraction volumes will be largely driven by stronger output by Elgacoal, belonging to Albert Avdolyan’s A-Property and Kolmar, owned by Anna Tsivileva.
In 2020 Russia’s thermal and metallurgical coal output dropped to 401.4 mio t (-41.1 mio t or -9% to 2019), while exports were steady at 195.1 mio t.
