Russian Ministry of Energy revised its forecast for Russian coal production and exports in 2020. According to the Ministry, in 2020, coal production may fall to 400.0 mio t (-41.4 mio t or -9.3% y-o-y). Due to the forecast, Russian coal exports will decrease by 4% to 211.0 mio t in 2020, while supplies to domestic market will decline by 10% to 163.0 mio t.
According to Deputy Energy Minister Anatoly Yanovsky, this year investments in Russian coal mining industry have decreased by nearly a quarter due to the fall in global coal prices.
Earlier this year, Russian Ministry of Energy and Ministry of Economy provided contradictory forecasts on coal production in Russia. According to Russian Ministry of Energy, in 2020 coal production level was estimated at 448.0 mio t (+7.92 mio t or +2% y-o-y), while Russian Ministry of Economy expected a decline in coal output to 395 mio t (-45.07 mio t or -10.5% y-o-y).
