China has rolled out a flurry of measures to boost thermal coal supply to meet rising demand in hot summer when electricity consumption ascends.
Coal miners in main production areas of Shanxi, Shaanxi and Inner Mongolia are ordered to step up release of high-quality coal capacity, to ensure a stable supply in high demand months, according to a statement released by the National Development and Reform Commission lately.
Rail and port authorities should ratchet up cooperation to increase rail coal delivery to key transfer ports in north China led by Qinhuangdao, to maintain coal stocks there at high levels.
As of June 27, there were 5.39 million tonnes of coal stockpiled at the benchmark Qinhuangdao port, sliding 15% from a month ago and 17.2% year on year, showed data from sxcoal.com.
Priorities will be given to coal shipment to key power plants that suffered markedly lower coal inventories, said the statement.
