Under the Ministry of Coal Industry of Kuzbass, in January-April 2023 coal mining enterprises in Kuzbass produced 73.0 mio t of coal (-2.2 mio t or -2.9% y-o-y).
The production of coking coal during this period increased to 22.5 mio t (+0.7 mio t or +3.2% y-o-y), whereas thermal coal extraction volumes amounted to 50.5 mio t (-2.9 mio t or -5.4% y-o-y).
Coal companies produced 48.6 mio t (-1.3 mio t or -2.6% y-o-y) at open-pit mines and 24.4 mio t (-0.9 mio t or -3.6% y-o-y) through underground mining.
In Jan-Apr 2023, 60.2 mio t (+0.5 mio t or +0.8% y-o-y) were delivered to end-users, including 40.6 mio t (+1.0 mio t or +2.5% y-o-y) for export, 10.5 mio t (-0.4 mio t or -3.7% y-o-y) to Russian metallurgical companies and 6.8 mio t (+0.1 mio t or +1.5% y-o-y) to local coal-fired power plants.
As of May 01, 2023, coal stocks in Kuzbass totaled 20.3 mio t (+2.2 mio t or +12.2% vs. May 01, 2022) amid international sanctions against Russia and logistical issues (see the chart below).
