Under the Ministry of Coal Industry of Kuzbass, in January 2023 coal mining enterprises in Kuzbass produced 17.5 mio t of coal (-1.5 mio t or -7.9% y-o-y).
The production of coking coal during this period increased to 5.6 mio t (+0.3 mio t or +5.7% y-o-y), whereas thermal coal extraction volumes amounted to 11.9 mio t (-1.8 mio t or -13.1% y-o-y).
Coal companies produced 11.0 mio t (-1.6 mio t or -12.7% y-o-y) at open-pit mines and 6.5 mio t (+0.1 mio t or +1.6% y-o-y) through underground mining.
In January 2023, 15.6 mio t were delivered to end-users, including 10.3 mio t (-0.5 mio t or -4.6% y-o-y) for export, 2.5 mio t (-0.3 mio t or -10.7% y-o-y) to Russian metallurgical companies and 1.7 mio t (-0.03 mio t or -1.7% y-o-y) to local coal-fired power plants.
As of February 01, 2023, coal stocks in Kuzbass totaled 21.1 mio t (+5.1 mio t or +31.9% to February 01, 2022). Inventory growth in Kuzbass continued in 2023 amid international sanctions against Russia and logistical issues.
