Indonesian Energy Roadmap

Coal accounts for 37% of the total primary energy supply in Indonesia. The fuel dominates the electricity sector, contributing 60% of the total generation and growing. As of December 2019, coal resources were at an estimated 149 billion tons with 37.6 billion tons of reserves. In 2019, the country produced 616 million tons of coal. In addition to being important domestically, coal is a keystone commodity for international trade; approximately 80% produced domestically is exported overseas, mainly to the People’s Republic of China, India, and Japan.
